Looking to escape the heat this July? The Junkman™, Donald Knaack, will be bringing his unique blend of music, environmental awareness, and family fun to the D.C. and Coastal Virginia area with a series of engagements designed to dazzle and delight audiences both young and old. Be it pounding out hypnotic beats on hubcaps, saw blades, and flower pots, jamming out with the audience, or helping kids create wind chimes from found objects, The Junkman™offers an abundance of activities that take place in air conditioned comfort.

From Monday, July 6 through Friday, July10, The Junkman™ will be at holding a summer camp at The Children’s Museum of Virginia in Portsmouth. This Junk Music™with The Junkman™ specialty camp will be held from 9am until noon each weekday. Using only recycled materials, campers will learn the basics of percussion, teamwork in music making, listening skills, rhythmic drills, the basics of improvisation, dynamics, and introduction to eco-rhythms. On Saturday, July 11 at the Children’s Museum of Virginia, The Junkman™will be featured in the museum’s Make and Take Saturday. From 10am till noon and again from 2pm to 4pm, The Junkman™ will be performing concerts and holding instrument making workshops. All attendees get to take home their finished instruments.

Tuesday, July 14 through Friday, July17, finds The Junkman™ at The Smithsonian in Washington, DC, Ripley Center, for two concerts each morning at 10:15 and 11:30pm.
