Led by The Junkman™, Donald Knaack, this free rain-or-shine percussion jam found participants jamming out with provided sticks, pieces of junk, and repurposed materials. Fans of a better earth, from all walks of life, all ages were invited to join the jam in person or via the Internet. No musical training was necessary as The Junkman lead simple, yet infectious rhythms which accompanied chants about small changes we can make in our daily habits that have huge positive impacts upon Mother Earth (Take Less Time in the Shower, Always Throw it in the Can, Don’t let the Water Run and I Save Energy are examples).

“The goal of Global Junkjam is to raise awareness about the small changes we can all make in our daily habits to better protect the Earth while having fun and making music as a community,” explains Knaack, a classically trained percussionist who switched to recycled materials as instruments 25 years ago. “Get your kids together and jam on the front lawn. Form a group and go to your local park. However and wherever you decide to jam, I want to see it! Take photos and/or videos of your participation and post them to the event’s Facebook page  Global Junkjam™ 2013 so everyone can see, hear, and be inspired.  The more people that participate, the better it is for Mother Earth.” says Knaack.

The live event featured The Junkman performing with a base group of students from the Tilghman Elementary School of Tilghman Island, MD. The Junkman™ has led environmental-related Junkjams and concerts worldwide and has received numerous awards for his HOP (Help Our Planet) environmental education program for students.
